The plan is to redesign the network to function as two separate networks. There will be minimal changes to SMILEYNET, which is the back-end. It's under the hood that the changes will take place. The first start, is to redesign by purpose the purpose of SMILEYNET.
That purpose hasn't really changed. It's just come to a possibility of being created by what's currently available for technology.
I'm sure we had enough technology if we needed it to throw something together when I started, but I was never given enough resources to do so at the time. Perhaps I didn't know how to ask???
Any way, like has been posted, SMILEYNET is almost at version a. It's just that the definition of version a has changed a little. Just based off of what works and what doesn't. But the definition is more or less the same.
We should be able to find ISP services that will work for us. We just have to search hard and talk to the right people. But there are indeed, without forcing a move, for our/my purposes, ways to work around the issues.
We are learning what the network requires, but we almost know what it requires absolutely. We have a pretty good idea now.
All non-self-hosted services will continue to function.
